Week 4 Workout 2
For my 8th workout, and to mark the halfway point in the 8-week blog assignment, I decided to go back to playing tennis. This is my favorite sport to play outside of soccer and hockey, and it involves constant movement and little rest, ensuring that the 1 hour workout had little pauses. The difference between this session and my other tennis session is that this time I did the workout with my father, he also took the photos of me and refused to be in any photos (which I respected). Applying the Fitt principles, starting with frequency, of course I only played today, but playing tennis 3-4 times per week provides good consistency for fitness gains, and isn't too strenuous on the body. The intensity is moderate to high intensity, but this session was at a higher intensity than the tennis workout in the earlier week with Nicholas. My dad did not take it easy on me, and he actually used to play tennis when he was younger, so we were not just rallying like what I did with Nicholas, he was forcing me to run very often for the ball. My heart rate elevated during rallies and movement across the court, and I didn't slow down or rest much at all. The time of the workout was the usual hour, with a little 2 minute warmup and stretch before we started hitting the ball. The type of workout was mostly aerobic, tennis targets the competencies of cardio endurance, agility. Tennis is a workout that targets cardiovascular health improvement, as is with many of the workouts you will see in my 16 workouts over the course of 8 weeks. On a mental note, this sport also promotes stress relief and mental relaxation through physical engagement. This is one of the reasons I love sports workouts, but I still do want to focus on muscle strength workouts or full-body workouts that are posted on Omnivox, so I try to have variety in my workouts. In conclusion, my one-hour tennis session applied all aspects of the Fitt principle, proving that tennis is an enjoyable, challenging, and well-rounded way to improve overall health and fitness.
